FULLERTON – The Hope International men's tennis team dropped a tightly contested 5-2 decision to Ventura College on Friday at the Fullerton Tennis Center. 

The Royals narrowly lost the doubles point, won a pair of singles matches and came close to winning two others.

In doubles, Karan Srivastava and Thomas Folsom were 6-1 winners over Yusen Sato and Victor Peyrebonne on court No. 2. HIU fell by a close 6-4 margin at No. 1, where Reid Lizardo and Sebastien Dizon Perez came up just short against Caua Coimbra and Abiadj Mondroha.

The singles matches featured Mohamed El Sheikh rising to No. 2 on the ladder, and he prevailed by a 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 score against Sato.

Kento Henderson grabbed the second singles point for HIU, dispatching Peyrebonne in a 6-4, 6-2 triumph. 

Srivastava played a dominant second set and lost in excruciating fashion in the tiebreak at No. 1, falling 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-8 to Coimbra. 

The Royals also got a solid effort from Michael Lumang on court No. 5. He fell in a tight set one tiebreaker, losing 7-6 (10), 6-3 to Shingo Ono.

HIU fell in straight sets on courts No. 2 and No. 6.

The Royals complete their four match in four days bonanza when they meet Stanton on Saturday at noon in the Fullerton Tennis Center.
