Royals Use Big Second Half to Top Lion Angels 66-47

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team's (4-4) won their second game in a row as they took down the Bethesda University Lion Angels 66-47 on Tuesday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

It was a poor start for the Royals as they started their bench players and the Lion Angels took full advantage as they took a 14-4 lead midway through the first. The Royals would respond with a three from Natalie Acuna to make it 14-7 but they weren't able to hit their shots as the Lion Angels took a 19-9 lead at the end of the first. The Royals quickly started to chip into the Lion Angels lead to start the second quarter as a jumper Amira Austin cut it to 21-16 with 7:38 left. The Lion Angels answered with a bucket but the Royals came storming back on a 10-2 run as a Jada Long layup put the Royals up 26-25 with 2:07 to go. The Lion Angels would then snatch a late basket as the Royals trailed 27-26 at halftime.

The Royals quickly retook the lead to start the third as Faith Brinkman nailed a three. The Lions Angels would comeback to tie it 31-31 with 7:42 left but the Royals answered on an 11-2 run with three huge threes from Long to take a 42-34 lead with 5:27 to go. The Lion Angels answered with a  pair of free throws but the Royals closed out the half on a 14-2 run finished off by back to back threes from Brinkman to take a commanding 56-38 lead at the end of the third. The Lion Angels didn't give up as they rallied to make it 60-47 midway through the fourth. The Royals weren't about to allow a comeback though as they closed out the game on a 6-0 run with all six points from Mia Heidt as the Royals won 66-47. Brinkman led the Royals with 17 points.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Westcliff on Thursday, December 5 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
