Hope International honorees Alessandro Spendolini and Hugo Gonzalez Gutierrez received GSAC recognition as the Men's Volleyball Attacker and Defender of the Week for their roles in a 2-1 showing against league competition.
Spendolini, a 6-4 outside hitter, averaged 5.75 kills, 2.83 digs and 0.75 blocks per set as he helped solidify wins against La Sierra and Park Gilbert. He also had a career-high 37 kills on .397 hitting in a tough five-set loss to Benedictine Mesa. He had 17 kills against the Golden Eagles and 15 in just three sets versus the Buccaneers. Spendolini also collected double-digit digs in all three contests for his sixth, seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season. For the week, Spendolini hit .363 (69-16-146) overall.
Gonzalez Gutierrez, who recently became the full-time libero for the Royals, amassed 51 digs and averaged 4.25 digs per set. He tied his career-high with 18 digs in back-to-back matches against La Sierra and Benedictine Mesa, then added 15 more versus the Buccaneers. He also totaled eight assists and two service aces for the week.
