FULLERTON – In the 3rd annual Royal Rumble STUNT Tournament, Hope International hosted 12 universities from across the nation. The Royals were victorious in all four of their games played and remain undefeated for the season at 9-0.
The Royals opened the tournament against St. Mary's from Austin, Texas. The Royals downed the Rattlers by a score of 31-8. Power players for the game were Sophia Rosendale, Meela Ly, Addy Drumond, Andra Brenneman and Giselle Baeza. Highlight of the game was scoring on tumbling 7. The Royals improved to 2-0 all-time against the Rattlers.
Game 2 was against first year team Fresno Pacific. The outcome of the game was 25-2. Power players were Rosendale, Drumond, Ly, Mackenzie Flowers, Ivy Martinez and Claire Zenisek. Highlight of the game was scoring unopposed on both partner stunt 8 and pyramid 8.Â
HIU took on Grand Canyon in game 3, winning by a score of 23-0. The Royals only setback was not scoring unopposed on PS8. Power players for the game were Ly, Rosendale, Drumond and Sami Cohen. HIU is now 4-0 all-time against the Lopes.Â
The final matchup was conference play against Arizona Christian. The Royals played a perfect game and ended up with a 24-0 victory. Power players were Rosendale, Ly, Drumond and Cohen. The Royals improved to 11-0 all-time against the Firestorm.Â
Other standout Royals during the tournament were Kimmie Yost, Allie Galler and Grace Brassfield with exceptional tumbling. The other universities in attendance included Park Gilbert, Northwest Nazarene, Trevecca Nazarene, CUI, California Baptist, Vanguard and UC Davis.
The Royals head out on the road next week to Texas, where they will face Texas Woman's, Kentucky, Oklahoma Baptist, Missouri State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
