Royals Fall to Undefeated Pilots in Tight Battle at World Series

Lewiston, ID - The No. 4 Hope International University baseball team (47-9) fell into the loser's bracket of the Avista NAIA World Series as they fell 6-3 to the undefeated top seed Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots at Harris Field in Lewiston, ID on Monday evening.

Trey Seeley got the start and pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four. Josh Landry (11-1) took his first loss in relief pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing three runs, one earned on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Trotter Boston led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

It was a battle throughout as the number one and two pitchers in the country faced off against each other in front of a soldout Harris Field in a game that felt like a final. Seeley would put the Pilots down in order to start the top of the first and the Pilots starter would do the same in the bottom half. The Royals would then breakthrough in the bottom of the second as game one's hero Trotter Boston ripped a two out two run single over the head of the first baseman to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.

The number one ranked Pilots battled right back in the top of the third to tie the game 2-2. Seeley would then get out of the jam with a huge strikeout but the Pilots weren't done as they scored again in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. This time the Royals would battle back in the bottom of the fourth as they got back to back singles with one out before Boston forced an error with two down to tie the game 3-3.

Landy then came in from the bullpen and put the Pilots down 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth but they were able to get a run in the top of the sixth to retake a 4-3 lead. The Royals looked to answer but it was the Pilots who took advantage of an error in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 6-3. The Royals didn't give up as they finally got a baserunner in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to take advantage as they fell 6-3 with their nine game win streak at Harris Field coming to an end.

The Royals will now take on seventh seeded Cumberlands for the second time in an elimination game on Tuesday, May 27 at 3:00 PM.
