No. 6 Royals Sweep Eagles With Offensive Showcase

Prescott, AZ. – The No. 6 Hope International University baseball team (28-5, 13-1) extended their winning streak to nine games as they opened up a four game series against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles sweeping a doubleheader winning 13-4 and 16-4 on Friday on the road in Prescott, AZ.

Game 1:
Trey Seeley (8-0) picked up his eighth win pitching 6 innings allowing three runs, one earned on six hits while striking out nine. Josiah Chavez led the Royals offense going 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and two home runs.

The Royals got off to a quick start as Amari Bartee crushed his team leading ninth homerun of the season to leadoff the game and put the Royals up 1-0. Later in the inning Branden Chun-Ming and Colby Moran delivered back to back two out RBI singles to increase the Royals lead to 3-0. The Eagles struck back in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1 but Seeley limited the damage with a huge strikeout. The Royals would then add to their lead in the top of the third as Chavez launched his fourth home run in four games, a two out two run shot to center to increase the Royals lead to 5-1. The Eagles would strike back in the bottom of the third as they took advantage of an error to make it 5-3.

That's as close as the Royals let them get as David Shackelford ripped a two run double to left to make it 7-3 before then scoring on a wild pitch as the Royals took an 8-3 lead in the top of the fourth. Seeley then shutdown the Eagles while the Royals offense kept roaring along. Chavez would crush his second two run homerun to left field in the top of the fifth as the Royals pushed their lead to 10-3. The Royals would then load the bases in the top of the sixth with Chun-Ming forcing in a run on a double play to make it 11-3. The Royals weren't done as Alejandro Torres ripped a two out RBI double to center in the top of the ninth to make it 12-3 before then scoring on an RBI single by Shackelford as the Royals took a commanding 13-3 lead.

The Eagles would finally get a run back in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff homerun to make it 13-4 but Raul Herrada who had come in in relief got the final three out to seal a 13-4 win. Herrada pitched the final three innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.

Game 2:
Josh Landry (6-0) picked up his sixth win pitching 5 innings allowing four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out six. Trotter Boston led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and a homerun.

Once again the Royals got off to a quick start as Julian Francois smashed his fifth homerun of the season, a two run shot to right to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. Landry shutdown the Eagles over the first two innings while the Royals added to their lead in the top of the third. Kyle Harvey in his return from injury delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0. Then three batters later Chavez lined a two run single into left field to increase the Royals lead to 5-0. The Eagles would finally get to Landry in the bottom of the third as they made it 5-2 but Landry would work out of trouble with a huge strikeout to end the inning.

The Royals offense then kept hitting in the fifth as Mario Tostado blasted his fourth home run of the season, a three run bomb to increase the Royals lead to 8-2. The Eagles would rally in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-4 but once again Landry limited the damage with a big strikeout to end the inning. The Royals then broke open the game in the top of the sixth. Shackelford got things started with an RBI single to increase the Royals lead to 9-4. The Royals would then load the bases and drive in another run with a walk to Colby Moran. Boston then crushed a grand slam for his seventh homerun of the season to give the Royals a commanding 14-4 lead. Tostado would then launch his second homerun of the game as the Royals went up 15-4.

The Eagles looked for an answer but Logan Long came in from the bullpen to shut them down pitching the final two innings allowing just one hit while walking one. The Royals offense would add another run in the top of the seventh as Spencer Davis launched his first homerun as a Royal over the right field wall as the Royals won 16-4.
