Royals Dominate Sea Beggars 15-2

Fullerton, CA – The No. 2 Hope International University baseball team (12-4) started a three game series against the Providence Christian College Sea Beggars with a dominant 15-2 win in a shortened 7 inning game on Friday afternoon at home at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

Trey Seeley (4-0) picked up his fourth win pitching 6 innings allowing two runs, one earned on two hits while striking out six. Branden Chun-Ming led the Royals offense going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs including a home run.

Seeley worked around a two out infield single to keep the Sea Beggars off the board while the Royals offense got started in the bottom of the first. The Royals would start things off with four straight hits including an RBI double from David Shackelford and an RBI single from Matthew Pinal to make it 2-0. Later in the inning Chun-Ming delivered a sac fly before Josiah Chavez unloaded a booming RBI double to deep center field to give the Royals a 4-0 lead.

The Sea Beggars looked for a response but Seeley continued to shut them down retiring them in order in the top of the second and working around a hit batter in the top of the third to keep them off the board. The Royals offense then continued in the bottom half as they got three straight hits with an RBI single by Chun-MIng making it 5-0. Chavez then came through with a sac fly to make it 6-0. The Royals continued to score in the bottom of the fourth as Trotter Boston dropped a two out RBI single into centerfield before Chun-Ming his first home run of the year, a two run shot to left field to put the Royals up 9-0. Boston then delivered a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-0.

The Sea Beggars would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth as they made it 10-2. The Royals weren't done scoring either as Manny Morales and Josiah Chavez ripped back to back doubles down the line to make it 11-2. Ivan Barragan then launched his first Royals home run, a two run blast to increase the lead to 13-2. Three batters later Shackelford hit his first Royals home run that just cleared the left field wall to put the Royals up 15-2. Raul Herrada then pitched a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to secure the 15-2 win in a run shortened game.

The Royals wrap up their series with Providence Christian with a doubleheader beginning on Saturday, March 1 at 11:00 AM at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
