Women’s Basketball Pins 73-Point Victory on Stanton

FULLERTON – Hope International women's basketball opened up the 2025-26 season with a commanding 92-19 victory over Stanton on Tuesday at Darling Pavilion.

Four Royals finished in double figures with Angelina De Leon and Faith Brinkman leading the way with 13 points apiece. Aliyah Gonzalez chipped in 11 points and Amira Austin added a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double as the Royals won their season opener for the third straight year.

All 12 HIU players made at least one basket. The team shot 43.2 (38-of-88) percent from the field, hitting 12 three-pointers.

Conversely, Stanton finished just 17.5 (7-of-40) percent from the floor. HIU also won the rebounding battle (55-28) and forced 28 Elk turnovers while committing just seven of its own.

Natalie Acuna collected a game-high four steals for the Royals.

The Elks were led by Melana Goodloe with eight points and 10 rebounds.

HIU controlled the game from the outset by jumping out to a 9-0 lead. The lead ballooned to 19-2 before Goodloe hit a trey with 1:08 to go in the first period. HIU led 21-5 after one quarter.

The Royals extended their lead to 39-14 on a Jamelia Coleman triple with 3:15 remaining in the second period.

HIU continued its onslaught after going into halftime with a 45-14 lead. The Royals outscored the Elks 15-0 in the third quarter, holding the visiting to 0-of-12 shooting.

HIU had its best offensive quarter in the fourth, scoring 32 points with all seven reserves contributing. De Leon had seven, followed by five from Jada Long, Aaliyah Perez-Sandi and Acuna.

The Royals head out on the road for a Thursday, November 6 game at Corban. Tip time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
