Herrera Saves the Day as Royals and Mustangs Finish Scoreless

La Mirada, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (4-1-1, 1-0-1 GSAC) earned their first draw of the season as they played out a goalless draw 0-0 with The Master's University Mustangs on Saturday afternoon at home in La Mirada, CA.

The Royals started out on the attack in the first half and had an early opportunity but Andy Cabrera's shot was saved by the Mustangs goalkeeper. The Mustangs also had several opportunities but did not end up testing Royals goalie Berlin Torres as they were unable to score. The Royals got some good attacks going into the Mustangs box but were unable to get shots off in dangerous situations as the game remained scoreless. The Royals continued to press forward looking for a goal before the half but none came as the score was 0-0 at halftime.

The Royals started off strong in the first half with two attempts from Emi Amaro but both missed the target. The Mustangs then grew into the game and started dominating the second half. It looked like they were about to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute as Adiel Kaduya was in on goal but Royals goalie Milton Herrera came up with huge back to back saves to deny the Mustangs. The Royals then had a chance ten minutes later but Ryan Jamir's long shot banged off the crossbar. The Mustangs then came close again as they banged one off the post. The Royals had a late chance by Gio Marin but his shot was blocked and went just wide as the game finished 0-0. Torres played the first half while Herrera played the second half and came up with five huge saves.

The Royals continue GSAC play on the road on Thursday, September 26 at 8:00 PM against Benedictine Mesa in Mesa, AZ.
