Carranza's Late Goal Wins it For Royals

La Verne, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (4-1, 1-0 GSAC) came from behind to defeat the Life Pacific University Warriors 2-1 with a goal in the final minutes on Wednesday afternoon on the road in La Verne, CA.

It was the Warriors who came out on the attack and pressed forward creating a great chance just four minutes into the game but goalie Milton Herrera came up with a big save to keep the game scoreless. The Royals then had a great chance in the 25th minute but Braulio Morales's shot was saved by the Warriors goalie. The Warriors then opened the scoring on the counterattack in the 27th minute as the Royals trailed 1-0. The Warriors then had another great chance to score on a 1-on-1 but this time Herrera came up with a big save to keep the Royals in the game. The Royals looked answer as George Peterson had a big chance to tie it but his shot was right at the Warriors goalie as the Royals continued to trail 1-0 at halftime.

Trailing at the half for the first time all season the Royals looked for an answer as they pressed for the equalizer. Despite a number of chances early on it would take awhile for the Royals to strike but they finally did in the 66th minute as Matthias Alcaraz was hauled down in the box after his initial shot was saved off the line. Andy Cabrera then stepped up and buried the penalty for his first career Royals goal to tie the game 1-1. The Royals continued to push as they looked for the game winner and they found it as Brandon Galindo whipped in a perfect ball for Cristian Carranza who finished at the near post to put the Royals ahead 2-1 in the 86th minute. The Warriors would have a late chance to tie it but goalie Berline Torres came up with the save to secure the win. Torres played the second half and recorded three saves while Herrera played the first half and recorded two saves.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host The Master's on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 PM at Biola University in La Mirada, CA
