Koffroth Leads Royals to Sweep of Golden Eagles

Riverside, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (6-4) won their second game in a row as they swept the La Sierra University Golden Eagles 3-0 on Friday afternoon on the road in Riverside, CA.

The first set was back and forth as the teams exchanged leads with a big kill from Savannah Salter putting the Royals up 13-12 midway through the set. The Golden Eagles would stay close as they tied it several times but the Royals were just too much as they pulled away to a 21-18 advantage off a kill from Addie Mathias set up by Stacey Dawes. The Royals then closed out the set winning 25-21 to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals seized control of the second set as they went on a 14-3 run with two kills each from Salter and Yale Spoja to take a commanding 19-7 lead. The Royals then held off any attempt at a comeback by the Golden Eagles as they won the set 25-12 and took a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles looked to stay alive in the third set but the Royals had other ideas as they opened on a 6-1 run before going on to take a 10-3 advantage led by three kills from Cassidy Koffroth. The Royals then extended their lead to 19-9 but the Golden Eagles weren't done as they rallied to get within 19-18. The Royals weren't about to be denied as they held on to win 25-22 with a Mathias kill sealing a 3-0 sweep. Koffroth led the Royals with nine kills, while Mathias led with 11 assists and Naomi Ruiz with 14 digs.
