Jarrett Leads With 21 as Royals Snap Losing Streak

Surprise, AZ - The Hope International University women's basketball team (14-10, 6-8 GSAC) snapped their five game losing steak as they took down the OUAZ Spirit to wrap up GSAC regular season play on Thursday afternoon in Surprise, AZ.

The Royals got off to a quick start as they opened on a 12-2 run led by six points from Casey Fust with the team shooting 4-for-8 from three. The teams then exchanged baskets with a Shailissa Jarrett bucket putting the Royals up 16-6 with 3:13 to go. The Spirit would close the quarter with four points as the Royals led 16-10 at the end of the first. The Spirit made it 20-17 to start the quarter but the Royals answered with a bucket from Jarrett to spark a 16-2 run with seven points from Jarrett to take a commanding 36-19 lead with 3:21 to go. The Spirit would get within 36-24 but a three by Madeliene Salud put the Royals back up 39-24 at the half.

The Spirit didn't make it easy for the Royals as they rallied to get within 40-33 but the Royals answered strong with an 11-2 run led by four points each from Jarrett and Shiane Talley as they extended their lead to 51-35 with 3:57 to go. The Royals continued to score as they increased their lead to 62-39 on a three by Jarrett as they took a 62-41 lead at the end of the third. The Spirit once again started the next quarter strong as they opened on a 14-4 run to make it 66-55 but the Royals weren't about to fold as they held on for a 73-68 win. Jarrett led the Royals with 21 points.

The Royals will be the sixth seed in the GSAC Tournament and will take on the third seed on Thursday, February 29 at 7:15 PM in Atherton, CA..
