Royals Fall 75-61 in GSAC Quarterfinals

Atherton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team's (14-11) fell 75-61 to The Master's University Mustangs on Thursday evening on the road in the GSAC Tournament at Menlo College in Atherton, CA.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start as they opened with an 8-0 run. The Royals quickly responded as back to back threes from Anyah Shamburger tied it 8-8 with 6:42 to go. The Mustangs would retake a 12-8 lead but once again the Royals answered as Shiane Talley sparked a 9-0 run as the Royals took a 17-12 lead with 3:34 to go. The Mustangs answered to tie it 17-17 at the end of the first. Casey Fust put the Royals back up 19-17 to start the second but the Mustangs would go back up 24-19. The teams then swapped the lead several times before a layup by Shailissa Jarrett gave the Royals a 35-33 lead at the break.

The Royals quickly extended their lead to start the third as they took a 40-33 lead with buckets from Jarrett and Fust. The Mustangs would get within 45-43 but the Royals quickly answered with a layup from Talley as they took a 50-43 lead with 4:13 to go. The Mustangs weren't to be denied though as they stormed back to take a 51-50 lead at the end of the third. The Mustangs continued their momentum into the second as they opened on a 9-0 run to take a 60-50. Jarrett immediately answered with a three to make it 60-53 but the Mustangs had all the answers while the Royals went cold from the floor as they fell 75-61. Jarrett led the Royals with 18 points while Shamburger added 15 off the bench.

The Royals now await their fate to see if they are selected as an at large bid for the NAIA Tournament with the opening round set to begin from March 15-16.
