Royals Fall 79-65 to Firestorm on the Road

Glendale, AZ - The Hope International University women's basketball team (13-10, 5-8 GSAC) dropped their fifth game in a row as they fell 79-65 on the road to the Arizona Christian Firestorm on Thursday evening in Glendale, AZ.

It was a battle early on as back to back threes from Keira McNamee put the Royals up 11-5 midway through the half. The Firestorm quickly answered to tie the game and retake the lead 13-11 but the Royals came back as a three by Aliyah Gonzalez put them up 16-15 with 3:06 to go. The teams then traded leads until the Firestorm scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 22-19 lead at the break. The Firestorm quickly extended their lead to start the second but the Royals answered as Casey Fust hit a jumped to cut it to 26-22 with 8:16 remaining. The Firestorm continued to lead as they went up 30-22 but a layup by Shailissa Jarret stopped the run and make it 30-24. That's as close as the Royals got as the Firestorm pulled out to a 44-30 halftime advantage.

The Royals came storming out of the half on a 10-2 run led by five points from Fust as they pulled within 46-40 with 7:52 remaining. The Firestorm had all the answers as they would extend their lead to 51-40 midway through the quarter. The Royals didn't give up as a three by Jarrett made it 51-43 but again the Firestorm answered as they took a 69-51 lead at the end of the third. Once again the Royals came out of the break strong this time on an 8-0 run started by a Jada Long layup as they made it 69-59 with 6:34 to go. That's as close as they got though as the Firestorm pulled away as the Royals fell 79-65. Jarrett led the Royals with 16 points.

The Royals look to end their losing skid as they wrap up GSAC play on the road in Suprise, AZ as they take on OUAZ on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00 AM.
