Talley Leads With 19 As Royals Pull Away Late From Warriors to Win 71-55

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (13-5, 5-3 GSAC) won their fourth game in a row as they took down the Life Pacific University Warriors 71-55 on Thursday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first as they both struggled to find a rhythm. It was the Warriors who took an early 4-0 lead before the Royals came back on an 8-0 run to make it 8-4 midway through the first on a big three by Anyah Shamburger. The Warriors then fought back to go up 12-9 before a basket by Shailissa Jarrett pulled the Royals within 12-11 at the end of the first. The Royals quickly retook the lead as Jarret hit a jumper to start a 9-3 run as the Royals took a 20-15 advantage. The Warriors kept it close as they made it 23-22 with 2:18 to go. The Royals responded well as Fust nailed a jumper followed by another three by Shamburger before the break as the Royals took a 28-23 lead at halftime. The Royals lead was helped by 16 points off 11 turnovers.

Fust nailed a layup to start the third as the Royals extended their advantage to 30-23 but the Warriors came storming back to tie it 36-36 midway through the third. The Royals quickly responded with a three by Shamburger to go up 39-36 but the Warriors kept it close throughout as they stayed with 49-47. Shiane Talley then nailed a spin around three at the buzzer to make it 52-47 at halftime. The Royals then continued their momentum into the fourth as they opened on a 12-3 run led by two big threes from Jarrett to go up 64-50 midway through the quarter. The Warriors answered to make it 64-53 but it was all Royals as Aliyah Gonzalez nailed a three in response to make it 67-53 as the Royals went on to win 71-55. Talley led the Royals with 19 points and 9 rebounds.

The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they travel to Newport Beach, CA to take on No. 10 Vanguard on Saturday, February 3 at 4:00 PM at Corona del Mar High School.
