Royals Bounce Back With Win in Dominant Performance Against Knights

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (5-6) got a much needed win as they closed out the HIU Christmas Classic with a dominant 74-37 win over the Nobel University Knights on Wednesday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first as it was 2-2 midway through the quarter. The Royals then showed some life as they went on a 9-0 run led by four points from Mia Heidt to take an 11-2 lead as they went on to lead 11-4 at the end of the first. The Royals offense then came to life in the second as they went on a 17-1 run led by eight points from Faith Brinkman and seven from Trasara Alexander as they took a commanding 28-5 lead lead with 3:22 to go. Heidt and Brinkman would then score again as the Royals took a 33-9 lead at the half.

The Royals stretched their lead to 40-11 at the start of the third capped off by a layup from Amira Austin. The Knights looked for an answer and got it as they closed within 43-23 midway through the quarter. The Royals didn't let up though as they closed the quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 50-24 lead at the end of the third. The Knights would get a few baskets to start the fourth as they made it 54-28 but the Royals were firmly in control as Heidt finished the game with back to back layups to give the Royals a huge 74-37 win. Brinkman led with 21 points while Alexander added 19 and Heidt recorded a double double (16 points, 12 rebounds).

The Royals continue action at home as they host UC Merced to wrap up their non conference schedule on Thursday, January 2 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
