Royals Torch Elks 100-35 to Snap Four Game Slide

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team's (3-4) ended a four game slide as they took down the Stanton University Elks 100-35 on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals started off quickly with an Alexandra Trasara layup and a three by Faith Brinkman to go up 5-0. The Elks would then tie it 5-5 but the Royals answered with a 7-0 run as Brinkman drained another three to put the Royals up 12-5 with six minutes to go. The Elks would come back to tie it 12-12 midway through the quarter but the Royals closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run led by six points from Mia Heidt as they took a 21-12 lead at the break. The Royals then put the game away in the second quarter outsourcing the Elks 26-0 as they didn't allow a point in the quarter for the first time all season. Amira Austin led with six points, while Gonzalez had five as the Royals took a commanding 47-12 lead at halftime.

The teams exchanged baskets to start the third as the Royals led 54-17 with 7:12 remaining. The Royals then went on an 11-0 run finished off by a three from Elizabeth Cota-Gaxiola to extend their lead to 65-17 with 3:08 to go. The Elks looked for an answer but the Royals continued to score as they led 76-28 at the end of the third. The Elks would score a bucket to start the fourth but the Royals kept scoring as they went on a 16-0 run led by five points from Casey Fust to extend their lead to 92-30 midway through the quarter. The Elks answered with a bucket but Aliyah Gonzalez then nailed back to back threes as the Royals went on to win 100-35 scoring 100 points for the 14th time in program history and first since 2012. Heidt led the Royals with 22 points. Three more Royals also finished in double figures as Brinkman had 19, Gonzalez with 16 and Austin with 14.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Bethesda on Tuesday, November 26 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
