Four Royals Finish in Double Figures in Dominant Win Over DIII Leopards

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team's (2-0) won their second game in a row as they dominated NCAA Division III University of La Verne Leopards 88-54 on Friday at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The game swung back and forth in the opening minutes as the Leopards took an 8-7 lead with 5:36 to go. The Royals quickly answered with three straight baskets from Mia Heidt to take a 13-8 lead with 4:51 left. The Leopards would claw back to 16-15 but the Royals answered with a big three from Alexandra Trasara and a jumper by Natalie Acuna to stretch their lead to 21-15 at the end of the first. The Royals quickly extended their lead on a three by Trasara to start the second but the Leopards came back with hot three point shooting of their own to get within 28-26 with 5:42 to go. The Royals weren't about to let up as Faith Brinkman laid it in to start a 12-0 run as the Royals took a commanding 40-26 lead with 2:25 to go. The Leopards answered to make it 40-29 but that's as close as they got as Casey Fust finished off a three point play before an Aliyah Gonzalez layup put the Royals up 45-29 at halftime. 

The Leopards tried to stay close at 50-33 but it was all Royals as Brinkman nailed a three to start an 8-0 run as the Royals extended their advantage to 58-33 with 6:28 to go. The Leopards would get back to within 62-41 but the Royals closed out the quarter strong with a dagger three by Fust to take a 67-42 lead at the end of the third. The Royals continued to dominate in the fourth quarter as their three point defense shut down the Leopards. The Leopards would make it 71-51 but the Royals closed the game on a 15-3 run led by seven points from Trasara to win 88-54. Four different Royals finished the game in double figures with Brinkman leading the way with 19. The Royals were helped by an impressive 34 points off the bench 

The Royals return to action on the road as they head to Caldwell, ID to take on the College of Idaho on Friday, November 8 at 5:00 PM.
