Ramirez Helps Lead Royals to 2-0 Shutout Over Buccaneers

Irvine, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (9-3-3, 6-2-3 GSAC) got a big home win as they shutout the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers 2-0 on Thursday evening at home at the OC Great Park Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA.

The Buccaneers had the first shot opportunity of the game in the opening seconds but Royals goalie Berlin Torres was right there to make the stop. The Royals then pressed forward looking for the opener and had an early chance from Emi Amaro but he couldn't hit the target. The Royals would then put their first shot on target by Uriel Sanchez but it was right to the Buccaneers goalie. The Buccaneers also had little success as they were unable to challenge Torres for the rest of the half. The Royals then had a great scoring opportunity off a corner by Brandon Galindo as he came close to an olimpico goal but the Buccaneers made a huge save to keep the game scoreless as it was tied 0-0 at halftime.

It didn't take long for the Royals to find the opening goal in the second half as substitute Sebastian Ramirez came off the bench and put a shot on goal. The Buccaneers goalie saved it but the rebound went right to Cristian Carranza who fired home for his third goal of the season to put the Royals up 1-0 in the 46th minute. The Buccaneers for a responded but the Royals defense continued to hold them at bay. The Royals then added an insurance goal in the 64th minute as Aldo Ramirez made a run into the box and whipped a ball into the path of Ramirez who finished at the far post for his second of the season to make it 2-0. The Royals would then hold off a late charge by the Buccaneers as they won 2-0. Torres played all 90 minutes in goal while recording two saves.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, October 26 at 3:00 PM at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.
