Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's soccer team (7-1-1) won their second game in a row as they took down the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Troy High School in Fullerton, CA.
The Royals were on the attack from the opening whistle with
Angel Magdaleno getting off several early opportunities but the Pioneers continued to hold the Royals at bay. The Royals continued to attack and found the breakthrough in the 16th minute as
Diego Lopez found Magdaleno who cut in on a goal from the left and finished to make it 1-0. The Royals then doubled their lead in the 28th minute as this time Lopez blasted home his first of the game to increase the Royals lead to 2-0. The Royals continued to dominate possession but it was the Pioneers who would score just before halftime on a free kick to pull within 2-1 at halftime.
The Royals would quickly reassert their two goal lead minutes after halftime as
Anthony Acosta whipped in a great ball to Lopez who headed home for his second of the game to increase the Royals lead to 3-1. From there the Royals defense clamped down as they allowed just one shot on target which goalie
Milton Herrera easily scooped up. The Royals would create one last opportunity right at the death but
Christian Uriostequi fired just over the goal as the Royals won 3-1. Herrera played all 90 minutes in goal while recording one save.Â
