Allie Puente With Another Gem As Royals Split With Warriors

Lincoln, CA – The Hope International University softball team (28-8) split a GSAC doubleheader with the Jessup University Warriors on Friday afternoon as they won the first game 4-0 and lost the second 9-0 in Lincoln, CA.

Game 1:
Allie Puente (20-2) picked up the win pitching a complete game shutout pitching 7 innings while allowing just three hits and striking out 12. Alena De La Torre led the Royals offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

After a scoreless two inning the Royals jumped on top in the top of the third. With two on and one onut De La Torre dropped an RBI single down the right field line to make it 1-0. Emily Puente then followed a with a fielder's choice RBI as the Royals took a 2-0 lead.

That's all the run support Allie needed as she continued to shutdown the Warriors not allowing a runner past first base during the entire game. Meanwhile the Royals added to their lead on an RBI groundout by Kassie Puente and an RBI single by Arianna Coronado in the top of the sixth as the Royals went on to win 4-0.

Game 2:
Grace Craig (4-2) took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs, one earned on one hit while walking two. Jaylyn Hernandez led the Royals offense going 2-for-2.

The Royals threated in the top of the first with back to back singles but were unable to score while the Warriors took full advantage putting up four runs in the bottom half as they took a 4-0 lead. The Royals continued to battle as Hernandez doubled in the fourth but again they came up empty.

The Warriors then added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0. They then took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fifth as they scored four more runs allowing them to walk it off 9-0 in a shortened five inning game.

The Royals continue their Northern California road trip as they head to Atherton, CA to take on Menlo in a doubleheader beginning on Saturday, April 15 at 12:00 PM.
