Royals Come From Behind To Split Doubleheader With Oaks

Atherton, CA – The Hope International softball team (29-9, 13-5 GSAC) split a doubleheader with the Menlo College Oaks as they lost the first game before coming from behind to win game two 3-2 in 8 innings on Saturday afternoon in Atherton, CA

Game 1:
Olivia Candelas (4-5) got the start and received the loss pitching 1 inning allowing three runs, two earned on three hits while walking two. Ariana Coronado led the Royals offense going 0-for-1 with an RBI.

The Oaks took an early lead as they got to Candelas in the bottom of the first as they took a 3-0 lead. The Royals offense continued to battle and finally got on the board in the top of the fifth. After two hits to start the inning and wild pitch that moved both runners over Coronado delivered a sac fly to make it 3-1. The Royals though were unable to add any more as they continued to trail.

On the otherside Allie Puente came in to to start the second and was brilliant pitching 5 innings allowing just two hits while striking out 10 and walking one as she limited the damage. The Royals offense though was unable to take advantage as they fell 3-1. 

Game 2:
Allie Puente (21-2) picked up the win pitching 8 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking walking one and striking out 9. Emma McCraw led the Royals offense going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Oaks got to Allie early as they pushed across two runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead but Puente answered well striking out the next batter and then ending the inning with a runner being thrown out to limit the damage. 

The game remained that way until the top of the third as the Royals answered. After a one out single Alena De La Torre ripped an RBI triple to center to make it 2-1. McCraw then stepped to the plate and delivered a game tying RBI single up the middle to tie it 2-2.

Allie then held the Oaks off the board as the game headed to extras. With one out and runner on third Makenna O'Toole delivered a sac fly to put the Royals up 3-2 in the top of the eighth. The Oaks then got the tying run on third in the bottom half but Allie struck out the final batter as the Royals emerged with the come from behind victory.

The Royals continue non conference action at home as they host Antelope Valley for one game on Tuesday, April 18 at 2:30 PM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
