Riverside, CA - The Royals Competed in the 2
nd annual Joust Tournament held at California Baptist University this weekend. Last year at the Joust, the Royals picked up their first program win against Arizona State University. This year the teams competing were the power house D1's - University of Kentucky, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Arizona State University and California Baptist. Rounding out the entrants was our very own HIU STUNT team- the only NAIA school in the tournament.
First game was against the wildcats from the University of Kentucky. The Royals fought hard and kept the lead the entire game starting with the first point! The wildcats showed up strong in qtr 3 to make up some points but the Royals finished strong in qtr 4 with a final score of 15-13. Power players for the game were
Kamea Binnquist,
Mackenzie Flowers and
Mackenzie Ellison all with 58 power points.
Jamie Goldman with 52 and
Nicole Contreras with 48. Daisy Yarasca and
Paris Crockett also played solid with 42 power points each. This was the first ever match up against the D1 wildcats.
Next up was the Mustangs of Cal Poly Slo. Last season when the two teams met up the Royals only scored 4 points to the mustangs 16. The game was an intense one with the score being royals 3 mustangs 2 at the end of the 1
st. Pyramids kept it a 1 point game at halftime with the royals leading 6-5. The end of quarter 3 still had the royals up 1 with an 8-7 score. Quarter 4 kept the game tight with the score being ties 12-12 at the beginning of the 3
rd round, the mustangs pulled ahead getting all 3 points on level 5, leaving it 15-12 going into the last round- the Royals tried to send it into overtime but came up short with a final score of 18-14. Power players for game 15 were
