O'Toole Delivers Game Winning Hit as Royals Sweep Firestorm

Glendale, AZ – The Hope International University softball team (18-4, 6-2 GSAC) have now won six in a row as they swept the Arizona Christian University Firestorm winning 5-1 and 4-3 in ten innings on Saturday afternoon in Glendale, AZ

Game 1:
Allie Puente (11-1) picked up the win throwing a complete game allowing one unearned run on seven hits while walking one and striking out nine. Ariana Coronado led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with two RBIs

The Royals jumped on top early as Emily Puente blasted her third home run in two games to put the Royals up 1-0. The Firestorm though answered in the bottom half to tie the game 1-1. The Royals would retake the lead in the top of the third as they loaded the bases with two outs before Coronado ripped a two run single up the middle to make it 3-1.

The Royals then added to their lead in the top of the seventh as Kassie Puente tripled with one out before Makenna Stuart brought her home with a single up the middle to make it 4-1. Then later in the inning with Stuart on third Makenna O'Toole stole second and in the process Stuart came home to make it 5-1. Allie then pitched a scoreless seventh as she worked around two singles to retire the Firestorm and seal the Royals win.

Game 2:
Emily Puente got the start pitching 1/3 of an inning allowing one hit and walking two. Allie Puente (12-1) picked up the victory in relief pitching four innings while allowing just one unearned run on one hit while walking one and striking out six. Makenna O'Toole led the Royals offense delivering the game winning hit.

The Royals ran into trouble in the bottom of the first as the Firestorm loaded the bases with one but Craig came in from the bullpen and got the final two outs without allowing a run as the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third as the Firestorm took advantage of an error to take a 1-0 lead.

The Royals quickly answered as Emma McCraw delivered a sac fly with one out to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fifth. They then took the lead in the top of the sixth following a two out single and two errors to go up 2-1. The Firestorm though quickly tied it in the bottom half with a home run to make it 2-2. Neither team were able to cash in in the seventh as the game headed to extras.

The Royals would then take the lead in the top of the ninth as Jaylyn Hernandez delivered a sac fly with one out to put the Royals ahead 3-2. The Firestorm fought back in the bottom half as they tied it 3-3 with two outs to send it to the 10th. Undeterred the Royals got right back to work as the Royals got runners on the corners before O'Toole delivered a single through the right side to put the Royals ahead 4-3. Allie Puente then shutdown the Firstorm in the bottom of the tenth as the Royals emerged victorious. 

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host Menlo College with a doubleheader on Friday, March 24 beginning at 11:00 AM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
