Royals Sweep Oaks Run Win Streak To Eight

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International University softball team (20-4, 8-2 GSAC) ran their win streak to eight games as they swept the Menlo College Oaks winning 3-0 and 6-2 on Friday afternoon at Lions Field in Fullerton.

Game 1:
Allie Puente (12-1) picked up the win throwing a complete game shutout allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out 12. Alena De La Torre led the Royals offense going 1-for-2 with two RBIs

It was a pitcher's duel early on until the Royals broke through in the bottom of the fourth as Arianna Coronado crushed a solo home run to right field to put the Royals up 1-0. The score would stay that way until the sixth as Allie Puente continued to shutdown the Oaks.

The Royals then added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth as De La Torre delivered a clutch two out two run single with runners on second and third to increase the Royals lead to 3-0. Allie then worked around a single as she finished off the Oaks by inducing a pop up to end the game as the Royals won 3-0.

Game 2:
Olivia Candelas got the start pitching 3 innings allowing two runs on one hit while walking four and striking out two. Grace Craig (4-0) picked up the win in relief pitching 3 1/3 innings allowing three hits while walking two and striking out two. Allie Puente notched her second save as she came in to get the last two batters to end the game. Makenna O'Toole and Emily Puente led the Royals offense with two RBIs each.

It was the Oaks who struck first in this one as they pushed across two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Royals quickly fought back in the bottom half as Makenna O'Toole ripped an RBI triple to right with nobody out to make it 2-1 but that's all the Royals could get in the inning as the game remained 2-1.

Knowing they needed an answer the Royals got to work in the bottom of the sixth. The Royals quickly took advantage of back to back errors to tie the game 2-2. A single and a walk followed before Makenna Stuart drove in the go ahead run on a sac fly with one out to make it 3-2. O'Toole would then walk with the bases loaded to make it 4-2 before Emily Puente broke it open with a two run single up the middle to increase the Royals lead to 6-2.

The Royals then ran into some trouble in the top of the seventh as the Oaks wouldn't go down easily loading the bases with one out. Allie Puente then came in and got a strikeout before inducing a fly out to end it as she picked up the save with Royals winning 6-2.

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host GSAC leading Jessup with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 25 beginning at 11:00 AM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
