Royals Can't Overcome Fast Start By Warriors

Santa Barbara, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (17-7, 10-5 GSAC) dropped their second game in a row as they fell 73-46 to the No. 5 Westmont College Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Santa Barbara, CA.

The teams exchanged baskets to start the game as the Warriors held a 6-4 lead before going on a 6-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage midway through the first. Ysabelle Hallemano then nailed a three followed by a bucket from Surie Camacho to cut the Royals deficit to 12-9. The Warriors seized back control though as they used a 7-0 run to take a 19-9 advantage at the end of the first. The Warriors took their momentum into the second as they started on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 25-9. Things didn't get better for the Royals as the Warriors took a commanding 37-14 lead at halftime.

The Royals continued to fight in the third but for every basket they scored the Warriors had an answer as they trailed 47-20 midway through the third. Trailing 54-26 the Royals closed the quarter with five points all of which came from Jeanette Fine as they trailed 54-31 at the end of the third. The Royals once again went basket for basket with the Warriors to start the fourth but in the end the Warriors were to much as the Royals fell 73-46. Fine led the Royals with 21 points.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host San Diego Christian on Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA.
