Fine Helps Royals Pull Away Late To Defeat Warriors 66-53

San Dimas, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (20-7, 12-5 GSAC) had to battle but ultimately pulled away late to defeat the Life Pacific Warriors 66-53 on Thursday evening in San Dimas, CA.

It was a low scoring first half as the Royals took a 7-3 lead midway through the first quarter led by five points from Casey Fust. The Warriors would make it 7-6 but the Royals used a 4-0 run to take an 11-6 lead. The Warriors came right back though as the Royals led 11-10 at the end of the first. The Royals took back the momentum to start the second as they opened on an 8-3 run finished off by a three from Ysabelle Hallemano to give the Royals a 19-13 lead. The Warriors kept pace with the Royals the rest of the way as the Royals took a 31-25 lead at halftime. 

The Warriors came out at halftime looking the better team as they opened on a 7-0 run to take their first lead at 32-31. The Royals responded as Jeanette Fine pulled off the three point play to put the Royals back ahead 34-32 but the Warriors came right back to take a 37-36 advantage. After the game was tied Fine nailed a three at the buzzer to put the Royals up 42-39 at the end of the third. The Warriors came right back to start the fourth as they opened on a 5-0 run to take a 44-42 lead. Free throws by Casey Fust would then help the Royals retake a 50-48 lead. The Warriors then tied it at 50-50 but the Royals closed the game on a 16-3 run led by six points from Fine as they prevailed 66-53. Fine led the Royals with 20 points.

The Royals wrap up GSAC regular season action at home as they host No. 12 Vanguard in a big showdown on Senior Day on Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 PM.
