Shamburger Leads with 17 Off the Bench As Royals Down Bethesda 98-70

Anaheim, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (6-2) won their fourth game in a row as they took down the Bethesda University Lion Angels 98-70 on Saturday afternoon on the road at the Salvation Army in Anaheim, CA.

The Royals got out to a quick start as they opened on an 8-0 run finished off by a layup from Aliyah Gonzalez. The Lion Angels got within 8-4 but it was all Royals from there as they answered on a 15-2 run led by five points from Gonzalez to take a commanding 23-7 lead midway through the first. The Lion Angels didn't go down easily as they rallied to make it 31-21 at the end of the first. The Lion Angels hung around to start the second as they trailed 37-25. The Royals though came to life after a pair of free throws from Casey Fust started a 13-0 run finished off by a three point play from Shiane Talley to put the Royals up 50-25 with 3:43 to go. The Lion Angels battle back to get within 50-32 but the Royals closed the quarter with back to back layups from Mia Heidt to take a commanding 57-32 halftime lead.

The Lion Angels got off to a good start in the third as they pulled within 67-49 midway through the third. The Royals weren't going to allow a comeback though as Anyah Shamburger laid in a basket to spark a 6-0 run as the Royals made it 73-49. The Lion Angels would cut it back to 75-57 but Jada Long nailed a three at the end of the quarter to put the Royals up 78-57. The Royals lead continued to remain about the same throughout the fourth as the teams exchanged baskets with the Royals leading 83-65 midway through the fourth. Madeline Salud then nailed a three to start a 15-5 run as the Royals went on to win 98-70. Shamburger led the Royals with 17 points off the bench.

The Royals continue action at home as they kick off the HIU Tournament against Antelope Valley on Monday, December 18 at 3:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
