Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (7-2) came from behind to win a wild one 73-70 in overtime to open up play at the HIU Tournament on Monday afternoon in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals got off to a sluggish start as they trailed the Pioneers early on in the first 8-3. The Royals answered on a 7-2 run to tie it 10-10 on a big three by Shiane Talley with 4:43 to go. The Pioneers though came right back as they extended their lead to 19-15 but the Royals got a much-needed basket from Aliyah Gonzalez and a free throw by Madeline Salud to pull within 19-17 at the end of the first. The Royals continued their momentum into the second as Talley went on a personal 5-0 run to give the Royals a 22-21 lead. The Pioneers had all the answers though as they went on an 11-2 run to retake the lead at 32-24. The Royals would get the final say in the quarter as Amira Austin hit a pair of free throws to pull the Royals within 32-26 at halftime.
