Talley Leads Royals With a Double Double in Season Opening Win Over Golden Eagles

Lancaster, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (1-0) opened their season with a dominant 80-60 victory over the La Sierra University Golden Eagles on the first day of the Antelope Valley Tournament on Friday afternoon in Lancaster, CA.

The Royals started the game on a 8-2 run finished off by a layup from Shiane Talley. The Golden Eagles would get back within four but it was all Royals as a layup by Amira Austin put them up 18-10 midway through the first. The Royals wound then go on to lead 22-12 at the end of the first with seven points coming from Aliyah Gonzalez. Back to back layups by Austin and Gonzalez got the Royals started in the second to make it 26-12 but the Golden Eagles stayed close as the Royals led 33-20 midway through the second off a layup from Casey Fust. From there it was all Royals as they took a 43-26 lead at halftime.

The Royals continued to build their advantage in the third as they opened with a layup by Kennedy Pucci and a big three from Shailissa Jarrett to make it 48-26. Later with the score 50-30 the Royals went on a 10-2 run with six points from Austin to take their largest lead by 28 points at 60-32. The Golden Eagles continued to battle but the Royals took a 66-42 lead at the end of the third. The Golden Eagles would pull back within 70-52 midway through the fourth but the Royals answered with a 9-0 run capped off by a three from Vhenus Gaoa to make it 79-52 as they went on to win 80-60.
Talley led the Royals with a double double (15 points, 10 rebounds).

The Royals wrap up play today at the Antelope Valley tournament as they take on Lincoln at 4:00 PM in Lancaster.
