Fine's Double Double Leads Royals Past Hawks 76-53

San Diego, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (13-3, 6-1 GSAC) got back on the winning track as they continued GSAC play with a 76-53 win over the San Diego Christian College Hawks on Saturday afternoon in San Diego, CA.

It was a tight game in the beginning as the Hawks surprised the Royals by taking an early 10-5 lead midway through the first. The Royals would quickly answer to get within 10-9 but the Hawks once again stretched their lead back out to 19-13 before a last second bucket by Ysabelle Hallemano put the Royals within 19-15 at the end of the first. The Royals came alive in the second quarter as they opened on a 11-2 run led by four points by Jeanette Fine as they took a 26-21 advantage. The Hawks kept it close though as the Royals led 31-27 at halftime.

The Royals took control in the third quarter as they went on a 13-3 run finished off by a layup from Fine as they took a 43-30 lead midway through the third. The Hawks wouldn't go away easily though as they went on a 14-2 run to close within 45-44 with 1:13 remaining. The Royals finished the quarter with the final eight points including a three by Ana Resendiz as they took a 53-44 lead at the end of the quarter. The Royals then ran away with it in the fourth as they outscored the Hawks 23-9 going on to win 76-53. Fine led the way with a double double (19 points, 13 rebounds). 

The Royals will return to action on Thursday, January 12 as they travel a short distance to Costa Mesa, CA to take on Vanguard at 5:30 PM in the Orange Coast College gym.
