Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (16-5, 9-3 GSAC) ended a two-game slide with a dominant 75-47 victory over OUAZ on Thursday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.
The Spirit opened the scoring with a quick basket but the Royals quickly answered with a 20-0 run finished off by a layup from
Jeanette Fine as they took a commanding 20-2 lead midway through the first. The Spirit managed to cut the Royals lead to 23-7, but the Royals had all the answers as they pushed their lead to 32-12 at the end of the first. The scoring slowed down in the second as the Royals started struggling from the field but the defense continued to shutdown the Spirit as they used a 5-2 run to increase their advantage to 37-14 midway through the second. The Spirit would get back within 19 but
Shailissa Jarrett would score the final five points of the quarter including a big three as the Royals led 46-22 at halftime.
The third quarter started off with the Spirit going on a 6-2 run to get within 48-28, but the Royals responded with a 5-0 run as they increased their lead back to 53-28. The Spirt would then get back within 20 but once again the Royals had all the answers as they closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 62-35 lead at the end of the third. The Royals continued to dominate in the fourth as they started the quarter on a 6-0 run finished off by a layup from
Rachel Capinia. The teams would then exchange baskets as the Royals emerged with a big 75-47 victory.
Shailissa Jarrett led the Royals with 14 points while Fust added 13 off the bench.
The Royals continue action at home as they welcome Arizona Christian to the Darling Pavilion on Saturday, January 28 at 12:00 PM.
