Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (17-5, 10-3 GSAC) won their second game in a row as they rallied from behind to defeat Arizona Christian 90-73 on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.
It was the Firestorm who jumped on top with an early 4-0 lead. The Royals responded well though as they went on a 7-2 run led by four points from Jeanette Fine as they took a 7-6 lead midway through the first. From there it was back and forth as the teams exchanged leads with the Firestorm taking a 20-18 lead at the end of the first. The Royals got right back to work in the second as they used a 5-0 run with a big three from Ana Resendiz to retake the lead at 23-20. The Firestorm wouldn't go away without a fight as they came back to retake the lead at 32-31 and then closed the quarter on a 7-2 run as the Royals trailed 39-33 at halftime.
The Royals stormed back to start the third as they opened the quarter outscoring the Firestorm 11-4 with a dagger three from Fine giving them a 44-43 lead. The teams then exchanged leads before the Royals used a late run with Fine driving for a layup to put them back on top 62-56 at the end of the third. The Royals didn't look back from there as they increased their lead to 76-65 on a putback from Shiane Talley forcing the Firestorm to call a timeout with 5:21 to go. The Royals continued to shoot well in the second half as they closed out the game on a 14-8 run to win 90-73. Resendiz led the Royals with 20 points in the victory.
The Royals continue action on the road as they travel up to Santa Clarita, CA to take on The Master's on Thursday, February 2 at 5:30 PM.
