Royals Down DII Silverswords 91-59

Honolulu, HI - The Hope International University women's basketball team (11-2) traveled to Hawaii where they took down NCAA Division II opponent Chaminade University Silverswords 91-59 on Saturday afternoon in Honolulu to open a two game road trip.

The Royals came out firing as they jumped out to a 17-3 advantage midway through the first quarter with seven points coming from back-to-back GSAC Player of the Week Shiane Talley and finished off by a three from Rachel Capina. The Silverswords battled back as they closed with nine but Casey Fust hit two late free throws to put the Royals back up 11 with a 23-12 lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was tighter early on as the Silverswords kept pace as the Royals led 30-20 midway through the second. The Royals went on to lead 36-25 before using a late 8-1 run finished off by a basket from Talley to take control as they led 44-26 at halftime. 

The Royals continued to dominate as they began the third quarter on a 9-2 run led by seven from Fust as they increased their lead to 53-28. The Silverswords didn't give up as they got back within 58-39 but the Royals closed out the quarter with an 11-3 run capped off by a three pointer by Anyah Shamburger as they took a commanding 69-42 lead at the end of the third. The Royals offense continued to click as they upped their lead to 79-45 on a fastbreak three from Capina with 7:30 left. The Silverswords would get back within 85-57 but the Royals finished off the game as they won 91-59 led by 15 points each from Talley and Jeanette Fine.

The Royals continue their trip to Hawaii as they take on Hawaii Pacific University on Monday, December 19 at 3:45 PM in Honolulu, HI.
