Royals Shutdown DII Sharks 72-47 in Defensive Battle

Honolulu, HI - The Hope International University women's basketball team (12-2) wrapped up their Hawaii road trip by taking down NCAA Division II opponent Hawaii Pacific University Sharks 71-47 on Monday afternoon in Honolulu.

The first quarter was a battle as it was the Royals who got out to an early 7-2 lead led by four points from Jeanette Fine. The Royals continued to succeed on offense as they stretched their lead out to 13-5 on a big three from Ana Resendiz. The Sharks didn't give up though as they fought back to get within 16-13 at the end of the first. The Royals continued to lead in the second but the Sharks continued to battle as they got back within 20-19. That was as close as the Royals would let them get as they answered with an 8-0 run capped off by a Jeanette Fine basket as they took a 28-19 lead and went on to lead 42-24 at the half.

The Royals great defense continued to shut the Sharks down while they made baskets on the other end as they stretch their lead out to 25 points on a dagger three by Shiane Talley to make it 53-28 midway through the third. The Sharks would answer with a basket but the Royals closed the quarter with baskets from Surie Camacho and Resendiz again as they took a commanding 57-30 lead into the final quarter. Shailissa Jarrett nailed a three to start the fourth to give the Royals their largest lead of the game at 60-30 as they went on to win 72-47. Resendiz led the Royals with 19 points off the bench while Fine recorded another double double (13 points, 10 rebounds). The Royals held the Sharks to 20% from the field.

The Royals head back to Southern California where they will take on Biola on Saturday, December 31 at 1:00 PM in La Mirada, CA.
