Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (5-1) came from behind as they won their fifth game in a row as they took down Menlo College 89-82 on Friday evening in the Darling Pavilion.
It was the Oaks who got out to a fast start as they jumped out to a 16-4 advantage midway through the first. Slowly but surely the Royals pulled themselves back into the game as they outscored the Oaks 17-12 over the rest of the quarter including a late three by
Shiane Talley as they got within 28-21. The Royals continued their momentum into the second as they opened the quarter on an 8-0 run led by five points from
Shailissa Jarrett as they took a 29-28 lead. From their it was back and forth with the teams exchanging leads before Fine hit two late free throws to give the Royals a 44-42 halftime lead.
The Royals took control in the third as they opened the third on a 15-7 run to extend their lead to 59-49 midway through the third. The Oaks though gave the Royals everything they could handle as they fought to get within 60-58 but the Royals answered closing the quarter on a 7-4 run as they extended their lead to 67-63 at the end of the third. The Oaks quickly tied the game start the fourth but the Royals came roaring back as Talley scored 11 straight points for the Royals as they extended their lead back to 78-73. The Oaks used one last surge to cut the game to three points at 85-82 but the Royals iced the game with four points as they won 89-82 in a thrilling offensive display. Talley led the Royals offense with 32 points.
