Royals Bounce Back With Dominant Win Over Flames

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (1-1) bounced back from their season opening loss with a commanding 104-40 home opener victory over Bethesda on Monday night in the Darling Pavilion.

The Flames actually got out to a 6-2 advantage to start the quarter but that was the last time they would lead as the Royals went on 22-2 run led by twelve points from Shiane Talley to take a commanding 24-8 advantage. The Royals would then go on to take a 27-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Royals continued their momentum into the second as they opened the quarter on a 21-0 run led by 9 points from Anyah Shamburger to extend their lead to 48-11. The Flames fought back as they outscored the Royals 13-11 to narrow the Royals lead to 60-24 at halftime. The Royals come right back out after half and took it to the Flames outscoring them 26-7 led by 10 points from Rachel Capina as they took an 86-31 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Royals continued to dominate in the fourth as they outscored the Flames 18-9 and went on to win 104-40. Shamburger led the Royals with 23 points, while Tally added 22. Calla Anderson and Aliyah Gonzalez each recorded a double double as well in the victory

The Royals will play an exhibition game against UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday and then return to action as they head to nearby Orange, CA to take on Chapman University on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 PM.
