Royals Clinch GSAC Regular Season Title With Win Over Hawks

Irvine, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (11-1-4, 6-0-2) clinched the GSAC regular season title with a commanding 5-0 victory over the San Diego Christian College Hawks at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.

With a chance to win their first regular season title since 2014 and second overall the Royals came out firing from the start. It only took until midway through the first quarter for the breakthrough as Diego Lopez crossed the ball into Willy Loredo-Suarez who finished to put the Royals up 1-0 in the 26th minute. Then in the 34th minute after missing a penalty kick the Royals would add a second a few seconds later as this time Loredo-Suarez found Lopez for his first of the game to make it 2-0 which is where the score stood at halftime.

The game got chippy in the second half as just ten minutes in both teams were reduced to 10 men. Both teams continued to press forward and it was the Royals who scored again as Marc Trejo laid off a great ball across box that found Lopez who tapped it in for his second of the game to make it 3-0 in the 72rd minute. Then just a few minutes later on a similar play Lopez found Miguel Flores who finished to push the Royals lead to 4-0 in the 77th minute. The Royals weren't done though as Joao Vitor whipped in a great ball off a corner kick that found the head of Cayden Carlson who scored his first goal of the season to put the Royals up 5-0. The Royals defense did a great job of shutting down the Hawks as goalie Oscar Sierra recorded a season five saves as the Royals clinched their second even GSAC regular season title.

After the game Head Coach Joe Lurker said, "What a special moment. We have been working toward this for a long time. This group is unique and I am so proud of them. They have had to fight through a lot, and to lock in a league title with 1 game to go, is remarkable! They deserve a lot of recognition and praise for what they are doing and hopefully for what they continue to do. I am excited to see what's at the end of this journey for this group."

The Royals wrap up regular season GSAC play at home as they honor their seniors in a game against Vanguard on Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 PM at OC Great Park Field 5 in Irvine, CA
