Royals Come Up Short Against Lions on Senior Night

Irvine, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (11-2-4, 6-1-2) lost their first game to NAIA opposition as they fell 1-0 to Vanguard in a hard fought game on Saturday night at OC Great Park Field 13 in Irvine, CA.

Prior to the game 12 Royals seniors were honored. It was the Lions though who came out of the gates more fired up as they unleashed multiple chances early on. The Lions would then find the breakthrough in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals were unable to create many chances as the trailed 1-0 at halftime. The Royals didn't give up though and came out of halftime more fired up they created several chances as they looked for the tying goal. One of the Royals best chances came in the 48th minute but Dario Robles header beat the goalie but was saved off the line by a Lions defender. The Royals then had another chance in the 83rd minute as it looked like Giovanni Passarelli would score but another Lions defender cleared the ball of the line as the Royals fell 1-0. With the loss the Royals share the regular season title with Arizona Christian. Milton Herrera got the start and recorded five saves while Oscar Sierra started the second half and recorded three.

The Royals now receive a bye and the #2 seed in the GSAC playoffs that will be played November 10th at Menlo College against the highest remaining seed
