STRONG SECOND OUTING FOR ROYALS AT SUNSHINE INDOOR OPEN

SANTA BARBRA, Calif.- The Royals competed at the Sunshine Indoor Open at Westmont College on Saturday, where HIU set more school records and competed in events for the first time. 

Overall, the Royals had 6 school records either broken or set for the first time. Veronica Chen (FR/Anaheim, CA), who set a record two weeks ago, improved her 3000m time by 27 seconds running 12:38.40 placing 12th. 

Shaylynn Wynn (FR/Bellflower, CA) jumped 4.98m (16' 4") in the Long Jump to place 5th and set a School Record and also ran 9.55 in the 60m Hurdles to place 4th overall. 

Joseph Clemons broke his own School Record in the 60m Hurdles by running 9.48 and placing 7th overall.

Daphne Salomon (JR/Chino, CA) broke her school record in the 600m by running 1:38.97 and just missed the National "B" standard of 1:37.51.  

Keith Williams and Joseph Clemons both broke the previous record in the 600m by running 1:23.94 and 1:24.41 respectively and placing 3rd and 4th.

Sophia Ruesga (SO/Fullerton, CA) ran the 200m in 27.09 just off her best time from last year, placing 7th overall.

Joseph Tobin and Andrew Valle both ran the 5000m, where Joseph Tobin crushed his previous School Record by 19 seconds running 15:30.17 and Andrew ran 16:42.66.

The race of the day was the Women's 4 x 400m Relay.  HIU fielded its first relay of this distance ever and ran a great time of 4:07.90 with Sophia Ruesga, Sofia Gutierrez (FR/Placentia, CA), Daphne Salomon, and Shaylynn Wynn running each leg. HIU finished 4th place to set a School Record.
