Samantha Doucette joins HIU’s coaching staff as an assistant and recruiting coordinator for the women’s basketball program beginning in the 2017-18 season. Coach Doucette comes to HIU after a one-year stint at NCAA DII Concordia Irvine and a playing career at GSAC foe Vanguard University.

Coach Doucette got her start in coaching during the 2016-17 season as a part of former CUI head coach Lacey Burns’ staff for one season as a graduate assistant. In addition to her previous coaching experience at CUI, Coach Doucette continues to coach for the Mambacitas club and at Corona del Mar Middle School. Coach Doucette will bring that Division II experience with her to the Royals and is already very familiar with the NAIA and GSAC basketball experiences as a former player.

Coach Doucette played four seasons for GSAC rival Vanguard University and was a three-time All-GSAC player and a three-time NAIA All-American. The Lions amassed a 99-21 record and four consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances while Doucette was an active member of the team, including a pair of Elite Eight appearances in her first two seasons. Doucette finished with 1593 career points, earning the nickname “Sammy Buckets” while playing under NAIA Hall of Fame coach Russ Davis.

Doucette graduated from Vanguard in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from CUI. Off the court, Doucette enjoys hiking, adventures, spending time at the beach, and Netflix.
