FULLERTON – Playing one of the top programs in NCAA Division III, the Hope International men's tennis team lost 7-0 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday at the Fullerton Tennis Center.
The Stags improved to 23-1 on the season, while the Royals fell to 9-12.
CMS won all three doubles matches to secure the point. The closest battle came at No. 2 where Reid Lizardo and Sebastien Dizon Perez narrowly lost 6-4 to Josh Kim and Sibi Raja.
HIU succumbed in straight sets at all six singles positions.
Lizardo tested Raja at No. 2, especially in the first set before a 7-5, 6-2 setback. Mohamed El Sheikh also pressed his opponent at No. 6, falling 6-4, 6-1 to Brandon Vu.
The Royals lost at No. 1 and No. 3 by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores, with Karan Srivastava and Thomas Folsom doing battle against Advik Mareedu and Kim.
HIU celebrated Senior Day for Folsom, the lone senior on the roster.
The Royals now await the draw for the upcoming GSAC Tournament, which will take place April 16-18 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
