COSTA MESA, Calif. – Freshman Evan Lambert led Hope International men's golf at The Soka Invitational on Thursday at the Costa Mesa Golf Course, tying for second overall with an even par 72.
Lambert birdied the second, 14th and 18th holes on the 6,542-yard course. He finished one stroke ahead of HIU's Ashtin Mount, who placed fourth with a 1-over 73. Caeden Cheah tied for fifth with a 2-over 74, and Chris Ruiz was seventh after carding a 3-over 75.
Other Royals who competed were Brooks Perry (12th, +10, 82), Drew Young (t-13th, +11, 83) and Dominick Rivera (t-15th, +12, 84).
The Royals finished second out of three teams at 16-over par. La Sierra won the event with an 8-over score. Soka placed third at +45.
Individual medalist was La Sierra's Kyle Harford, who shot a 1-under 71.
HIU is next in action on April 6-7 at The Bandy Invitational in Page, Ariz.
