FULLERTON – Hope International men's tennis defeated Occidental College 5-2 on Tuesday to snap a three-game skid.
The Royals improved to 4-9 overall on the season.
Occidental won the doubles point with triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3. Tate Ransom and Mason Hart just slipped past Reid Lizardo and Sebastien Dizon Perez, 6-4, at No. 2. The Royals got a win on court No. 1, where Karan Srivastava and Thomas Folsom earned a 7-5 decision against Ronald Chen and Konan Sahara.
But the Royals dominated the singles festivities, getting wins on five of the six courts.
Srivastava went 2-0 on the day as he overcame an early deficit to win a three-set battle against Ransom on the No. 1 court. Srivastava took the 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win.
Lizardo captured a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 2 over Jack Yurich, and Thomas Folsom downed Sahara 6-4, 6-2 in the third spot.
HIU clinched the match at No. 6 with Kento Henderson legging out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win against Josiah Mones.
The Royals earned their fifth point at No. 4, as Kaito Henderson also went to three sets before taking down Hart by scores of 7-6 (1), 5-7, 6-3.
The three-set match was the theme of the day, as HIU played another one at No. 5. Mohamed El Sheikh ended up on the wrong side of the result, falling 6-7 (6), 7-6 (9), 6-3 to Benjamin Burrows.
The Royals meet Haverford on Thursday for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Fullerton Tennis Center.
