Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls 1-0 to Soka

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Hope International dropped a 1-0 decision to Soka in GSAC men's soccer action on Wednesday.

The lone score came in the 52nd minute on a 20-yard free kick from Armando Carrera, who steered his shot into the upper right corner. The Royals were called for a foul just outside the box to set up the opportunity, one of just four shots for the Lions in the game.

The Royals outshot Soka 12-4, with Isidro Rios leading the charge with three. Vincent Lopez and Daniel Garcia each tallied two shots.

HIU held an 8-2 advantage in shots in the first half. Lopez forced Soka goalkeeper Eric Aparicio into a 10th minute save. The Royals took just four shots in the second period, and the defense did well to limit the Lions to only two.

But of the 41 fouls called in the game – 20 on HIU – the one setting up the free kick was the most costly.

Berlin Torres played all 90 minutes in goal for the Royals and made one save. Aparicio stopped two shots for the Lions.

After four straight games on the road, the Royals return home on Saturday to face The Master's. Kickoff is at noon at the OC Great Park.
