No. 18 Royals Drop Tough Doubleheader to No. 8 Grizzlies

Fullerton, CA - The No. 18 Hope International University softball team (29-9) dropped a tough doubleheader as they fell 4-2 in a pair of games to the No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies on Tuesday afternoon at home at Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA

Game 1:
Alexis Galvan (7-6) got the start and took the loss pitching 5 innings allowing four runs none earned on nine hits while walking one. Sarah Reisler led the Royals offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Grizzlies took advantage of an error in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals looked to tie the game but it was the Grizzlies who scored again thanks to another error in the top of the third as they extended their lead to 2-0. The Royals finally found an answer in the bottom of the third as Asia Chacon delivered a bunt combined with an error to get a run home and make it 2-1. The Royals then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Reisler came through with a clutch two out RBI single to make it 2-2.

The game didn't stay tied long though as the Grizzlies answered back in the top of the fifth taking advantage of another error to take a 3-2 lead. The Royals looked for a response but it was the Grizzlies who scored again in the sixth to extend their lead to 4-2. The Royals tried to rally but were unable to get any hits in the final two innings as they fell 4-2.

Game 2:
Kaitlyn Maaske (14-3) got the start and took the loss throwing a complete game 7 innings allowing four runs, three earned on four hits while striking out three. Sarah Reisler led the Royals offense going 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a home run. Gabriella Holmes led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

It was a pitcher's duel from the start as both pitchers were perfect through three innings. Holmes would get the first hit of the game to lead of the bottom of the third but the Royals were unable to capitalize. The Grizzlies then broke through in the top of the fourth as they took advantage of an error and some poor fielding to take a 4-0 lead on one swing of the bat.

The Royals looked to answer and finally got a rally going in the bottom of the seventh as they got back to back singles to start the inning. The Royals weren't able to do anything until down to their final out Holmes ripped a two run double to right center to make it 4-2 but that's all the Royals would get as they lost another tough one.

The Royals continue action at home as they wrap up GSAC play against Benedictine Mesa with a doubleheader on Friday, April 11 at 12:00 PM at Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA.
