Corrales's Clutch Single Leads Royals Past Sun Bears

Fullerton, CA - The No. 18 Hope International University softball team (34-11) got back on the winning track as they edged out the Grace University Sun Bears 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.

Kaitlyn Maaske got the start and pitched 2 innings allowing just one hit while striking out one. Grace Craig (5-1) picked up her fifth win in relief pitching 2 no hit innings while walking one and striking out one. Alex Galvan picked up her third save pitching the final 3 innings allowing no hits while striking out four. Natalie Corrales led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The game was a pitcher's duel as neither team was able to generate much offense. The Sun Bears got a hit to open the game but that's all Maaske would allow as she retired five hitters in a row to keep them off the board. The Royals would finally break the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth as they got three straight hits while Corrales ripping an RBI single to center to put the Royals up 1-0.

The Sun Bears looked for a response but the Royals pitching shut them down with Craig allowing just one baserunner over two innings. Galvan then came into get the save retiring nine straight batters to seal the 1-0 win for the Royals.

The Royals wrap up regular season action as they host Grace University on Saturday, April 26 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA. Seniors will be honored before the game.
