Royals End Regular Season With 6-1 Win Over Sun Bears on Senior Day

Fullerton, CA - The No. 18 Hope International University softball team (35-11) finished off the regular season with a 6-1 win over the Grace University Sun Bears on senior day on Saturday afternoon at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.

Grace Craig got the start and picked up her sixth win pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out one. Alyssa Castaneda led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Sun Bears would strike first in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead but that's all Craig would allow as she worked out of a bases loaded jam getting a groundout to end the inning. The Royals quickly struck back in the bottom of the first as Samantha Villanueva ripped a one out RBI double to center to tie the game 1-1. Emma McCraw then delivered a sac fly to put the Royals ahead 2-1.

The Sun Bears looked to but again Craig worked her way out of a bases loaded jam in the second to keep the Royals ahead. The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Castaneda delivered an RBI single to increase the Royals lead to 3-1. McCraw then came through with her second sac fly of the game to make it 4-1.

Alexis Galvan then came in from the bullpen to shutdown the Sun Bears pitching 1 2/3 no hit innings while walking two and striking out three. The Royals then added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth as Hailey Martinez delivered a one out RBI single to make it 5-1. Makenna Stuart then followed with a sac fly to put the Royals up 6-1. Kaitlyn Maaske then came in from the bullpen to pitch a scoreless top of the seventh as the Royals won 6-1.
