Royals Trounce DIII Bulldogs 25-1 to Wrap Up Regular Season

Redlands, CA – The No. 3 Hope International University baseball team (39-7) finished off regular season play with a big win as they dominated the NCAA Division III Redlands University Bulldogs 25-1 on Tuesday afternoon on the road in Redlands, CA.

With only one game left until the GSAC Championships the Royals gave each starter two innings as Trey Seeley got the start and pitched 2 shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out two. Josh Landry (2-0) picked up the win in relief pitching 2 shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out two. Colby Moran led the Royals offense going 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs including a home run.

The game was scoreless until the top of the second when the Royals offense came to life. The first two batters would reach for Josiah Chavez who delivered an RBI groundout to put the Royals up 1-0. Moran then followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 2-0. Then with two outs Kyle Harvey ripped a two run triple down the right field line to give the Royals a 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs looked for a response but Seeley showed why he leads the NAIA in ERA working around a single to keep them off the board.

The Royals then broke the game open in the top of the third. The first two batters would reach again and Branden Chun-Ming would bring them home on a sac bunt attempt to force an error and increase the Royals lead to 6-0. Chavez then came through with an RBI single through the right side to make it 7-0 before Moran crushed his 10th home run of the season, a two run shot to give the Royals a 9-0 lead. Josh Landry then held the Bulldogs offense at bay for two innings allowing just two hits while striking out one.

The Royals kept their offense going in the top of the fourth as Matthew Pinal and Julian Francois delivered two singles and would then score on a passed ball to increase the lead to 11-0. Moran would then follow with his fourth RBI of the game, a two out single to make it 12-0. Jesus Munguia then came in from the bullpen for two shutout innings while the Royals struck again in the top of the sixth. With two on and nobody out Chavez delivered an RBI single through the right side to make it 13-0. Moran then ripped an RBI double down the right field line and would later score on a wild pitch to make it 15-0. David Shackelford then delivered a sac fly to give the Royals a 16-0 lead.

The Bulldogs looked for an answer but Munguia took care of business in the bottom of the sixth while the Royals batted around in the top of the seventh. The Royals would load the bases with nobody out before a passed ball and wild pitch increased the Royals lead to 18-0. Moran then forced in another run on a double play to make it 19-0. The Royals weren't done though as Nathan Estrada delivered a pinch hit two out RBI double and would then score on a wild pitch to make it 21-0. Pinal then ripped a two run double to right center to increase the lead to 23-0. Trotter Boston then came through with an RBI single before Alec Castillo ripped an RBI double to put the Royals up 25-0.

Tyler Tilton would then pitch a scoreless bottom of the seventh allowing just one hit while striking out one as the Royals continued to hold the Bulldogs at bay. The Bulldogs would finally get on the board in the bottom of the eighth to make it 25-1 but that's all Matthew Pinal would allow after pitching the final two innings as the Royals won 25-1.

The Royals will head to Arizona for the GSAC Championships where they will take on The Master's on Monday, April 28 at 2:00 PM at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, AZ.
