McCraw and Reisler Lead Royals to Comeback Series Win Over Eagles

Fullerton, CA - The No. 19 Hope International University softball team (23-7, 8-4 GSAC) split their second GSAC doubleheader against the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles falling 4-2 before coming from behind to win 6-4 and clinch the series at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.

Game 1:
Alexis Galvan (6-5) got the start and took the loss pitching 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs, one earned on three hits while walking four and striking out one. Emma McCraw led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Eagles took advantage of an error in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals then tied the game in the bottom of the second as Breanna Lucero delivered a two out RBI single that bounced right through the infield to tie it 1-1. The Eagles then chased Galvan from the game in the top of the third as they took a 3-1 lead. 

The Royals tried to find an answer but the Eagles would extend their advantage to 4-1 in the top of the fifth. The Royals would finally answer in the bottom of the sixth as Vivan Little singled and would score as McCraw ripped an RBI triple to make it 4-2. The Royals would then try to start a rally in the bottom of the seventh as they put runners on first and second with nobody out but they were unable to take advantage as they fell 4-2.

Game 2:
Vivian Little got the start and pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing two runs on six hits while walking one. Galvan (7-5) picked up the win in relief pitching 4 2/3 shutout innings allowing four hits while walking three and striking out five. McCraw and Sarah Reisler led the Royals offense with 2 RBIs each.

The Eagles jumped on top in the first inning as they got five straight hits to take a 2-0 lead. Grace Craig would then come in from the bullpen to get a big strikeout to limit the damage. The Royals then rallied in the bottom of the second as they loaded the bases with one out. Sarah Reisler would then deliver an RBI single to make it 2-1. Then with two down McCraw ripped a two run double just fair down the left field line to put the Royals ahead 3-2.

The Eagles would come right back in the top of the third as they took a 4-3 lead. Galvan then came in from the bullpen to shut down the Eagles while the Royals rallied in the bottom of the sixth. The Royals would take advantage of an error to tie the game 4-4. Reisler then delivered a sac fly to put the Royals back ahead 5-4. Later in the inning Alyssa Castaneda launched a two out RBI double to increase the Royals lead to 6-4. Galvan then slammed the door on the Eagles in the ninth as she ended the game with back to back strikeouts to seal the win.

The Royals continue action at home as they Nelson University of Arizona on Wednesday April 2 with a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.
